Mpshinning Scores Big Win In The Miss Polly Classic At Delta Down


Mpshinning, under jockey Everardo Rodriguez, easily wins the e $48,900 Miss Polly Classic Stakes (G2) on Thursday night at Delta Downs.

VINTON, LA—JULY 23, 2020—Delta Downs hosted the $48,900 Miss Polly Classic Stakes (G2) on Thursday night as the track began its seventh week of American Quarter Horse racing for 2020. The featured event was won by Larry J. Boudreaux’s Mpshinning with jockey Everardo Rodriguez in the saddle for trainer Adrian Huitron.

Mpshinning defeated eight rivals in the Miss Polly Classic and did it with relative ease, hitting the finish line 1-½ lengths in front of runner-up Barjax and third place finisher American Hussle, who were only separated by a nose in a photo for the place. The winner covered 400 yards in headliner in a time of 19.467, which equaled a speed index of 99.

Overall, this was the ninth win from 18 career starts for Mpshinning, who earned $30,000 for his effort on Thursday. The first-place prize raised his lofty career bankroll to $746,045. The Miss Polly Classic win also marked his second stakes win of 2020 as he was also victorious in the King William Stakes at Retama Park on July 4.

Bred in Louisiana by Jon and Donna McPherson, Mpshinning is a 4-year-old colt by Mr Piloto, out of the First To Shine mare Shinningperrydash.

Runner-up Barjaxs earned $10,000 for his second-place effort. Champion trainer Kenneth Roberts, Sr. saddled the son of multiple stakes sire Jess Louisiana Blue for owner Ed Peters. Gini Crawford bred the multiple graded-placed 4-year-old in Louisiana from the First Down Dash mare Elealicious. He has banked $118,754. Donald Watson was riding.

Texas-bred American Hustle, a 4-year-old colt of leading sire Apollitical Jess, picked up $4,400 for third. Jesus Marquez trains the bay for owner Rogelio Marquez, Jr. Tyler Graham and Namgis OH's LLC bred American Hustle from the Corona Cartel mare Charming Cartel. Antonio Alberto was aboard the earner of $121,132.

Sent to the gate at even-money by the wagering public, Mpshinning paid $4.20 to win, $3 to place and $2.40 to show. Barjaxs was worth $4.60 to place and $3.40 to show. American Hussle returned $6.60 to show.

Dij Imma B Famous, Achievopiloto, Follow My Wagon, The Grand Legend, Girlsingtheblues and Ms Diamond Prize completed the field.

Delta Downs will continue its race week on Friday with a 10-race program that includes three trials for this year’s $200,510 Firecracker Derby. On Saturday the track will conduct eight trials for the $371,415 Firecracker Futurity. Post time each night is at 6:15 pm CT.
