Multiple Grade 1 Sire Jet Black Patriot Dies

BOSQUE, NM–SEPTEMBER 30, 2022–Cooper Spring Ranch announced today their Grade 1 winner and multiple Grade 1 sire Jet Black Patriot died due to complications of colic.  The 16-year-old stallion stood at Double LL Farm in Bosque, New Mexico.

"Jet Black Patriot undoubtedly made his mark in the racing world, his genetics greatly improved the breed and the sport," Copper Spring Ranch said in a Facebook post today. "We thank each of you that have played a role in his life. Thank you everyone that bred to him, or purchased his offspring. Your faith in this stallion is what has given him the opportunity to leave behind such a legacy."

Racing only one year, Jet Black Patriot won seven of nine career starts and banked $876,921 for owner-breeders Richard and Janelle Simon. The son of Game Patriot, from the First Down Jewel mare First Down Hemp, won the LQHBA Million Futurity(RG1), Lee Berwick Futurity(RG1) Mardi Gars Futurity(RG2) and was second in the All American Futurity(G1).

Jet Black Patriot began his breeding career at Robicheaux Ranch and was purchased by Cooper Spring Ranch in November of 2017.  He remained in Louisiana through the 2019 breeding season. Jet Black Patriot stood his first season at Double LL Farm in 2020.

In 11 crops to reach racing age, Jet Black Patriot has sired 380 winners, 68 black type (10%), earners of over $17.5 million and average earnings per starers more than $27,650.
