Leading First Crop Sire Five Bar Cartel Gets First Graded Winner


Champion and leading first-crop sire got his first graded stakes winner on Saturday.

BREAUX BRIDGE, LA—MAY 19, 2018—Earlier this month leading first-crop sire Five Bar Cartel got his first stakes winner. Tonight (Saturday) the champion son of leading living sire Corona Cartel sired his first graded winner when Shakeshakeshakeit won the $359,715 LQHBA Laddie Futurity(RG1) at Delta Downs.

A $21,000 LQHBA Yearling Sale graduate, Shakeshakeshakeit closed fast under jockey Antonio Alberto to win the restricted grade 1 event for Louisiana-Bred Colts & Geldings.

Trainer Michael Taylor saddled the sorrel gelding for the ownership group Show Me Da Money, LLC. Bred by Copper Spring Ranch LLC, Shakeshakeshakeit earned $179,858 to push his bankroll to more than $181,000 in only two starts. He is out of the Tres Seis mare Rebas In The House.

Currently the #1 First-Crop Sire of Money Earners in the US, Five Bar Cartel has sired 12 winners from a limited number of starters, 2 stakes winner, 1 stakes-placed with earnings in excess of $392,000.

He is also the sire of Pot O Gold Futurity winner Ladys A Cartel SI 105 and West Texas Futurity(G2) runner-up All Sophia Wanted, as well numerous stakes qualifiers.

Five Bar Cartel was named AQHA Racing's Champion 2-Year-Old Colt in 2013. He won or placed in eight of 11 starts and earned $1,068,825. He won the Ed Burke Million Futurity(G1) and finished second in the All American Derby(G1).
