Stakes Winner and Multiple Stakes Sire First Prize Doc Euthanized


Multiple stakes sire First Prize Doc was laid to rest today in Opelousas, Louisiana.

OPELOUSAS, LA–SEPTEMBER 13, 2023–Stakes winner and multiple stakes sire First Prize Doc SI 108 was euthanized this morning (September 13) after complications post colic surgery on Monday. 

The 14-year-old stallion stood at Louisiana Center For Equine Reproduction in Opelousas, Louisiana. Frozen semen will be available for rebreeds only.

Owned by DSK, Ltd. First Prize Doc won or placed in nine of 14 career starts and earned $73,700. He won the Gentilly Dash Stakes, was third in the Evangeline Downs Dash and finalist in the Bienvenido de Nuevo Stakes and the Don Steele Memorial Stakes.

"We want to extend our appreciation and gratitude to Mr. Dewey Kendrick and his daughter Katelyn for allowing us to manage this stallion's career over the last several years," Stephen Deville, LACER Stallion Manager said about the son of leading sire Pyc Paint Your Wagon. "He was a neat stallion and his absence will be greatly missed over this sudden, unfortunate outcome."

From limited starters in seven crops to reach racing age First Prize Doc is represented by 3 black type, 39 winners, earners of nearly $1 million dollars and average earnings per starter over $13,500.

First Prize Doc is out of the former Broodmare of the Year First Prize Dash SI-101, a Dash For Cash sister to all-time leading sire of everything world champion First Down Dash SI 105 ($857,256).

First Prize Dash is the dam of 30 ROM, 28 winners, 11 black type including four Grade 1 winners—First Prize Leesa SI 106 ($488,270), First Carolina SI 106 ($315,047), First Prize Robin SI 103 ($295,147) and Fast First Prize SI 102 ($244,929), etc.

First Prize Doc is a half-brother to #8 all-time leading sire of money earners Heza Fast Dash, leading Canadian sire First Timber and multiple stakes sire First Prize Perry.

This is also the family of Rainbow Futurity(G1) winner Dark Nme SI 110 (6 wins at 2, 2023 $1,030,062), Ruidoso Futurity(G1) winner Apollitical Chad SI 97 ($930,730) and Rainbow Futurity(G1) winner Ms First Prize Rose SI 100 ($550,105), to name only a few.
