Fourteen Schooling Races Set Friday for Mardi Gras Futurity Hopefuls


Louisiana Downs will host 14 schooling races on Friday for state-bred 2-year-olds who remain eligible for the $250,000-Guaranteed Mardi Gras Futurity.

BOSSIER CITY, LA—JANUARY 30, 2019—The long awaited debut of the 2019 2-year-old racing crop will get underway on Friday (Feb. 1) when Louisiana Downs hosts 14 training races for hopefuls still eligible to the $250,000-Guaranteed Mardi Gras Futurity.

First post for the 220 yard races is set for 11:00 a.m. at the Bossier City racetrack.

Trials for the first official 2-year-old races of the 2019 season are scheduled Saturday, February 23rd. The restricted grade 2 final, the first official 2-year-old stakes of the season, will be conducted on Saturday March 16th.

Among the 85 two-year-old's to debut on Friday are numerous graduates of the 2018 LQHBA Yearling Sale, held last August in Kinder, Louisiana.

A pair of $40,000 LQHBA graduates will face-off in the Race 2. Trainer Martin Trejo will saddle A True Patriot, a $47,000 sale graduate, for owner Shacep Farms LLC from post 3. The son of leading sire Jess Louisiana Blue is from the second crop of RG3 Billy Montgomery EVD stakes winner Patriots Toast by Game Patriot.

Bennie and Teri Jeter's $40,0000 LQHBA graduate, Jess A Rouge Patriot will be saddled by trainer Jimmy Padgett from the 5 post. Jockey Cesar Esqueda has been tapped to ride the first foal from the multiple stakes winning Heza Fast Dash mare Jess A Rogue. The filly is by multiple stake sire Jet Black Patriot.

Doctor Pol, a $39,000 LQHBA graduate from the first crop of grade 1-placed Point Break Dash will start from post 1 for owner JP Quarter Horses and trainer Porfirio Fierro in Race 7. Bred by 2018 AQHA Racing leading breeder Grant Farms, the sorrel colt out of the Feature Mr Jess mare Feature Lucy is a half-brother to Ruidoso Juvenile Challenge(RG3) runner-up Feature Moonflash.

TF Eyesa Struttin will head Race 9 for trainer Lanny Keith. Down South Racing LLC paid $40,000 at the LQHBA Sale for the sister to multiple stakes winner TF Eyes R Struttin and half-sister to stakes-placed TF Eyesa Firefighter. Everardo Rodriguez is named on the Struttin To Beduino filly out of Eyes R Special by Mr Eye Opener.

Race 11 will be headed by $50,000 LQHBA graduate A Political Prize, The colt by first crop sire Apollitical Blood is also the first crop from the multiple RG3-winning Fast Prize Perry mare Scooter Prize. Martin Trejo owns and trains with Everardo Rodriguez named to ride.

One of Friday's toughest match-up's will come in the Race 13 when $65,000 LQHBA graduate Jrs Corona Toast will face $50,000 sale graduate Da Money Man.

Trainer Paul Rigdon conditions Jrs Coronas Toast, a colt by Coronas Leaving You for owners' Rigdon, Fernandez and Gonzalez. The half-brother to stakes-placed Jrs Runaway Ego is out of the Toast To Dash mare Egos Toast To Dash.

Da Money Man will start for owner Down South Racing LLC and trainer Lanny Keith. Everardo Martinez has been named to ride the Sir Runaway Dash colt from the multiple stakes winner TF Eyes R Struttin. This is her first foal.

According to rack officials, there will be no live streaming of tomorrow’s schooling races at Louisiana Downs .
