Champion Sire Coronas Leaving You Passes Away


Leading Champion Sire Coronas Leaving You passed away last Friday at Cox Stallion Station in Kaplan, Louisiana.

KAPLAN, LA–MARCH 7, 2025–Jerome Bellard, Farm Manager of Cox Stallion Station in Louisiana, announced today that leading champion sire Coronas Leaving You passed away on February 28, 2025, at the age of 20. There is not a final necropsy report as of yet, but Bellard said he died shortly after collecting him last Friday.

"He just walked around the stall a few times after bath and grooming and went to the corner where he collapsed and passed away," said Bellard.

Coronas Leaving You has been among the top echelon of leading sires and currently stands in the top 50 all-time leaders. He has sired $16 million in progeny from 14 crops to race with 52 black-type horses, 28 of them stakes winners. He is the sire of $28,000 average earnings from 570 starters.

Coronas Leaving You has also set the path for several up-and-coming sires, including Open Me A Corona, sire of nearly $3 million from six crops to race, RC Me Leaving You, sire of nearly $1 million from only 20 starters, and San Lorenzo, who's first foals will hit the tracks in 2025.

Bred by Andria Armer of Texas, Coronas Leaving You raced on the track under Bob and Jerry Gaston's ownership. The son of Corona Cartel earned $278,358 with nine wins from 13 starts, including the Firecracker Futurity [G2], 6666 Handicap. He was second in the Texas Classic Derby [G1] and a finalist in the Texas Classic Futurity • G1] and Championship at Sunland Park [G1].

Coronas Leaving You is out of the World Champion producer Lil Bit Rusty by Easily Smashed. She is a Grade 1 stakes-winning mare who earned $215,3954 on the track. He is a half-brother to World Champion  Whosleavingwho SI 105 ($1,334,842) and stakes winners Wholelota Dash SI 103 ($109,986) and Beduinos Rusty SI 106 ($57,695). He is from the immediate female family of stakes winners  Fernweh SI 97 ($558,611) and Jessa Lil Rusty SI 101 ($266,786).

Coronas Leaving You started his stud career at Hart Farms in Louisiana and continued it under his current owner, Bobby D. Cox. Jerome Bellard said the farm will still offer Frozen Semen and ICSI on the stallion. His 2025 fee is set at $3,000.
