Delta Downs To Host 15 Additional Days Of American Quarter Horse Racing For 2023

VINTON, LA–JULY 20, 2023– Delta Downs Racetrack Casino & Hotel recently completed 46 days of American Quarter Horse racing for 2023. An additional 15 days of racing will now take place between July 27 and September 2.

The extra race dates were transferred from Fair Grounds Race Course in New Orleans. This is the second consecutive year the Fair Grounds dates were moved to the Vinton, Louisiana racetrack.

The schedule for live racing during the Fair Grounds at Delta Downs meet will include programs each Thursday through Saturday, with the exception of August 3 – 5, in order to allow horsemen to attend the Louisiana Quarter Horse Association Yearling Sale. Post time each night during the season is set for 6:10 pm.

Fans can look forward to plenty of big races during the new season as a total of nine stakes will take place starting with the $25,000 Esplanade on Saturday, August 12. The Distaff Challenge will be the featured event on Saturday, August 19 before a flurry of stakes activity takes place on closing weekend.

The newly added Big Easy Futurity, with a purse of $50,000-added, will kick off the last weekend of the season on Friday, September 1.

The closing night card on Saturday, September 2 will include six stakes races headed by the $200,000-added LQHBA Sale Futurity. Last year’s Sale Futurity was worth total purse money of $525,420 and was won by Rogelio Marquez, Jr.’s San Lorenzo Moon.
