VINTON, LA–JUNE 84, 2022–News from the Quarter Horse racing industry in Louisiana is that perennial leading rider Everardo Rodriguez, who suffered a traumatic spill on Friday night June 3, at Delta Downs, is expected to be released soon to recover at his home in Balch Springs, Texas.
The 33 year-old native of San Luis Potosí, a city in central Mexico, suffered a compression fraction in his back, and a brain bruise as a result on the spill at Delta Downs aboard Tf Fortunate One.
After the spill, Rodriguez was transported for medical attention to Lake Charles, Louisiana before being Life Flighted to Christus Southeast Hospital in Beaumont, Texas.
The well-respected rider is currently in a back-brace, according to his agent Gerald Thomas, and will be confined to his home for an expected 8-weeks of rest. Follow up medical evaluations after the healing period will determine an expected time frame for a return to race riding, Thomas said. Early reports have specified an expected full-recovery.
Rodriguez, who led the nation in wins in 2021 with 147 victories, has won multiple leading rider titles at Quarter Horse meets in Louisiana.
He was the regular pilot of the millionaire two-year old winner Blood Money in 2021 with three-futurity victories that included wins in the Laddie Futurity(RG2), Lee Berwick Memorial Futurity(RG1), and the $1-Million Louisiana Million Futurity(RG1).
