BOSSIER CITY, LA—MARCH 7, 2022—Due to the record number of Louisiana-bred juveniles nominated to the 2022 Mardi Gras Futurity (RG2) at Louisiana Downs, trials were run over two days for the first time in the history of the championship.

Both on-track and simulcast handle were up considerably with officials reporting a total two-day handle of $1,026,942. Total handle for the 17 trials run last year on March 6 was $552,000.

“This exceeded our expectations, and it was rewarding to see the interest in the trials, with good crowd support on-track and solid wagering from horseplayers across the country,” said David Heitzmann, Louisiana Downs Director of Racing. “We look forward to running the final of the Mardi Gras Futurity and Derby on Sunday, March 27.”
