2021 Evangeline Downs Quarter Horse Leaders Announced


Everardo Rodriguez ran away with the 2022 Evangeline Downs leading rider title with 78 wins on 237 mounts.

OPELOUSAS, LA—JANUARY 2, 2022—Jockey Everardo Rodriguez, trainer Rosendo Valdez, Jr. and owner Rosendo Valdez took home end-of-meet titles for the just completed 2022 Evangeline Downs Quarter Meet.

Everardo Rodriguez, who was also the leading jockey in the nation by wins last year, ran away with the 2021 Evangeline Downs leading rider title with 78 wins on 237 mounts. He horses earned over $1.4 million off a (237) 78-32-34 record.

Juan Francisco Garcia, Jr. finished second by riding 36 winners from 160 starts and Ublado Luna was third with 33 winner form 226 mounts.

Rosendo Valdez, Jr. scored the leading trainer award 38 wins from 71 starts. His stable scored a 54% win record and earned $1,076,036.

He saddled Blood Money, winner of the state's richest race—the LQHBA Louisiana Million Futurity(RG1).

Longtime trainer Trey Ellis was second with 31 wins from 122 starts and Orlando Orozco saddled 20 winners from 119 starts for third.

Rosendo Valdez was the track's leading Quarter Horse owner for 2021 with 24 wins from 41 starts. His horses earned $278,731.

Rogelio Marquez, Jr. and Jose O. Barron tied for second with 10 wins apiece. Marquez, Jr. had 10 wins from 29 starts while Jose O. Barron's 10 wins came from 35 starts.

The 2022 Evangeline Downs Thoroughbred season begins on April 6. Racing will be conducted on a Wednesday through Saturday schedule that will run until August 27.

Quarter Horses will kick-off a 46 day meet at Louisiana Downs on January 10th and run through April 7th.
