LSRC Approves Combined Fairgrounds, Evangeline Quarter Horse Meet For 2021

The LSRC approved a combined Fair Grounds Racecourse and Evangeline Downs Quarter Horse meet for 2021.

BATON ROUGE, LA—APRIL 29, 2021—In a meeting earlier this week the LSRC approved a combined 2021 live Quarter Horse race meet for Fairgrounds Race Couse and Evangeline Downs to be run at Evangeline. The meet will begin October 6th and run through December 30th.

The change in race venues was necessary to accommodate the set-up time needed for the 2021 New Orleans Jazz Fest to be held in October. New Orleans Jazz Fest, which normally takes place the last weekend of April and first weekend of May, was postponed due to COVID-19 restrictions.

The set-up time for Jazz Fest conflicted with both the original Quarter Horse and Thoroughbred Fairground live racing meets.

In 2021 there will be 53 days of Quarter Horse Racing during the combined meet at Evangeline Downs in Opelousas, Louisiana. The meet will kick-off October 06th. The schedule provides for Wednesday thru Saturday racing except for Thanksgiving Day.

Beginning October 30th the schedule will increase to Tuesday thru Saturday except for Dec 24th & 25th. The meet will close on Thursday December 30, 2021.

The LSRC Commission also agreed to combine the PURSE FUNDS available for Fairgrounds and Evangeline Downs into the one meet.
