LQHBA Update on Louisiana Race Dates

LQHBA and LAHBPA announced proposal to help both Quarter Horse and Thoroughbred trainers stay at one racetrack for the remainder of the 2020.

ALEXANDRIA, LA—MAY 7, 2020— Bruce Salard, Executive Director of LQHBA, said after much discussion with horseman and LAHBPA that it has been agreed the best path forward for Louisiana racing, due to the COVID-19 outbreak, is for Quarter Horses to spend the remainder of the year (2020) at Delta Downs and for Thoroughbreds to have a longer meet at Evangeline Downs.

According to a letter received Wednesday from the Louisiana HBPA, their board has unanimously agreed to endorse a proposal for the Quarter Horses to remain at Delta Downs for the remainder of 2020.

"We look forward to working with you on behalf of our members," Benard Chatters, LAHBPA President said.

Quarter Horse dates for the 2020 Fair Grounds and the Evangeline Downs meets would be transferred to Delta Downs as well as the transfer of the Delta Downs 2020 Thoroughbred meet to Evangeline Downs. THIS PROPOSAL MUST BE APPROVED BY BOTH THE LOUISIANA STATE RACING COMMISSION AND TRACK MANAGEMENT.

With this approval LQHBA could start work on plans to restructure their complete 2020 Quarter Stakes schedule to run at Delta Downs in the second-half of the year.

"This would save trainers the expense of moving again in 2020," Salard said.
