Rodriguez, Roberts And J And J Stables Capture Leading Horsemen Titles At Delta Downs For 2019

VINTON, LA—JULY 6, 2019— Delta Downs wrapped up its 2019 American Quarter Horse season on Saturday night. During the special 12-race program, billed as Louisiana Showcase Night, the track honored its leading horsemen for the 46-day stand which began on April 19.

Everardo Rodriguez earned his first Delta Downs leading rider title this year as he won 52 races from 250 mounts. The San Luis Potosi, Mexico native’s mounts earned $998,860 which also lead all jockeys for the meet. Rodriguez’s richest win of the season came on May 17 when he rode Tf Shez Jess Dashin to victory in the $339,931 Lassie Futurity (RG2), which also produced a track record time of 16.174 seconds for 330 yards.

Following Rodriguez in the standings this year were Luis Vivanco (39 wins), John Hamilton (34), David Alvarez (26), Luciano Duenez (25), Antonio Alberto (22), Damian Martinez (21), Rolando Pina (21), Ricardo Hernandez, Jr. (20), and Randy Edison (14).

Kenneth Roberts, Sr. won his ninth Delta Downs leading trainer title as he saddled 40 winners from 185 starters. Roberts’ runners also accounted for the highest amount of earnings for a single trainer with $949,508. The biggest win for the 2017 American Quarter Horse Association World Champion trainer this season came with Tdz Jet Black Down in the $369,405 Laddie Futurity (RG2) on May 18.

Rounding out the top 10 trainers for the meet were Lanny Keith (27), Heath Taylor (18), Jose Carrizales (17), Trey Ellis (17), Josue Huitron (16), Vann Haywood (14), Martin Trejo (14), Willie J. Simien, Jr. (13), and Ray Mayo (12).

The leading owner title for 2019 went to J and J Stables, LLC (Juan J. Bazaldua and Jesus E. Delbosque) as they saw 11 of their 40 starters make it to the winner’s circle. Their earnings total of $126,563 ranked 12th among owners as Eulalio Argote and Victor Alvarado led the way in that category with $363,491. The lion’s share of that total came when Runaway Second Down took the season’s richest race, the $700,293 Lee Berwick Futurity (RG1) on closing night.

Following J and J Stables, LLC in the standings were Rogelio Marquez, Jr. (8), T M Ranch (Robert S. Holland) (8), Joseph Landreneau (7), Jerry Deville, Jr. (7), Geral Dewitt (6), Rancho Herradura, LLC (Barbara J. Ball) (6), Jorge Haddad (5), Paragon Farms LLC (Thomas Lipar), and Gene Cox (5).

Delta Downs will now prepare for its 2019-20 Thoroughbred season which runs from October 8 through February 29. The track will conduct live racing each Wednesday through Saturday night beginning at 4:55 pm Central Standard Time.
