ALEXANDRIA, LA—AUGUST 22, 2016—Racehorses bred in Louisiana were prominent last weekend at Ruidoso Downs in both trials for the $3 million All American Futurity (G1) and the $2.4 million All American Derby (G1).

Fifteen trials for the All American Futurity were contested on Saturday afternoon and accredited Louisiana-bred Gamey Tee Cos set the fifth-fastest time. Bred in Louisiana by Richard Ortego, the colt by Tee Cos out of the Game Patriot mare Gamey Girl was making just his third career start.

Owned by Arturo and Isidro Reyes, Gamey Tee Cos qualified for the West Texas Futurity at Sunland Park, finishing third in the Grade 2 final on April 30. His qualifying time of :21.689 granted him a spot in the prestigious All American Futurity(G1) on Labor Day.

Sadly, it was reported by Ben Hudson of TRACK Magazine that the colt passed away in the test barn thirty minutes after his trial. LQHBA board member Lyle Guillory and John Soileau stand Tee Cos at Blanchet Farms in Ville Platte, Louisiana.

Also on Saturday, Grant Farms LLC located in Pineville, Louisiana, posted trial wins with two colts bred in Louisiana. Famouseagletime a son of One Famous Eagle out of the Special Effort mare Abstinence won his trial in :21.769. Seaside Eagle, also by One Famous Eagle out of the First Down Dash mare Seaside, was also a winner, in a final time of :21:784. Famouseagletime qualified for the $500,000 All American Juvenile Invitational, which will be run on September 5.

On Sunday, in the All American Derby trials, Grant Farms LLC won the third race with Mr Chics Perry, a colt by Mr Jess Perry out of the Chicks Beduino mare Linda Te Chick. While he did not qualify for the final, the colt bred in Louisiana rewarded his backers with a win mutuel of $46.40, the highest payout of the 13 All American Derby trials.

"We extend a hearty congratulations to Mr. Ortego and Grant Farms for their success in one of the most competitive weekends in Quarter Horse racing," said Tony Patterson, executive director of the LQHBA "While we are deeply saddened at the passing of Gamey Tee Cos, we salute breeders Lyle Guillory and John Soileau and hope the progeny of Tee Cos will be represented in future editions of the All American Futurity."
