Toast To Blue Gets Up In Louisiana Downs Feature Allowance Thursday


Toast To Blue (#3), under jockey Everardo Rodriguez, gets up over Coronas Candy Man (#6) and Book Of Love (#1) in an $11,700 feature allowance Thursday at Louisiana Downs.

BOSSIER CITY, LA–FEBRUARY 23, 2023–Toast To Blue dug in under jockey Everardo Rodriguez to get up by a neck over Coronas Candy Man in an $11,700 Louisiana Downs Feature Allowance Thursday afternoon. Book Of Love finished another neck off the leaders to take third.

Owner-trainer Martin Trejo saddled Toast To Blue to his third career win in 11 starts. The 3-year-old son of multiple stake sire Jess Louisiana Blue completed the 300 yard task in :15.261 seconds, equaling a 93 speed index with a 4 mph tailwind.

Third in the Louisiana Champions Day Juvenile (RG2) in his last start, December 17, Toast To Blue has picked up $7,020 today to boost his bankroll to $65,350.  He was also won the LQHBA Sale Juvenile last summer and was a finalist in the Mardi Gras Futurity(RG2).

Aymond Bates LLC and Manuel Henry bred the sorrel colt from the Toast To Dash mare Sante Mon Amie.

Runner-up Coronas Candy Man earned $1,540 for second. Trainer Jose Carrizales named jockey Rene Hernandez to ride the son of leading sire Jess Good Candy for owner Florentino Leon.  A finalist in the Dash For Cash Derby(G2) last fall, Coronas Candy Man has banked $43,912 in 12 career starts.  Robert and Sandra Brown bred the bay colt in Iowa from the Corona Cartel mare Follies And Corona.

Jockey Raul Ramirez, Jr. rode Book Of Love to his third-place finish for owners Willie Simien, Jr. and Ronald Sims. Simien also trains the Louisiana homebred son of champion sire Coronas Leaving You from the Heza Fast Dash mare Dashin To Nola. The 3-year-old gelding has banked $23,077 in eight starts.

Lady Genevieve and Overcast completed the field. Jrs Magic Majestic and Wattle were both scratched.
