Jess Dash Fast Springs the Upset in the $30,000 Scoopies Leaving You Stakes at Evangeline

DECEMBER 17, 2022 – OPELOUSAS, LA – A night of seven stakes at Evangeline Downs kicked off with a 13-1 upset in the $30,000 Scoopies Leaving You Stakes as Jess Dash Fast became the first stakes winner of the evening.

It was also the first career stakes win for the 3-year-old Heza Fast Dash filly, who earned $18,000 for her effort.

Jorge Javier Garcia guided the filly to a gate-to-wire, half-length win over Sheza Freighttrain T in the 250-yard race; the final time of 12.916 gave her a 107 speed index.

Jess Dash Fast ($28.60) is trained by Roberto Madrigal and is owned by Juan Montoya.

The well-bred filly is out of the Mr Jess Perry mare Eyejesslovelouisiana, who is a daughter of the graded stakes winning mare Louisiana Eye Opener. She was bred by Jumonville Farms and Burnett Ranch.

In her career debut, Jess Dash Fast qualified to the Mardi Gras Futurity (RG2) and returned to finish second in the final. She is three for ten lifetime with $137,542 earned.

Post-time favorite Sheza Freighttrain T was the clear second place finisher with Juan Polido on board for trainer Robi Meche. She earned a 104 speed index with a time of 12.992.

In 24 career starts, Sheza Freighttrain T has 12 wins and seven runner-up finishes with total earnings of $547,375.

The accomplished filly won the Lassie Futurity (RG2) to pick up a graded stakes win early in her career and has won multiple stakes since then, including the 2021 and 2022 editions of the Selma Stakes at Retama and the Flashy Hemp Stakes at Delta.

The 4-year-old filly is owned by Patrick Richardson and was bred by Rusty Trahan. Sheza Freightttrain T is by Freighttrain B and is out of the Carters Cartel mare Cloning Around.

A Political Toast and Arturo Alvarez completed the trifecta. The 4-year-old gelding is trained by Edgar Espino for owner CB Racing Stables. A Political Toast was bred by Gene Cox, by Apollitical Blood and out of the stakes placed mare Princess Toast, by Toast to Dash.

With five wins in 24 starts, including the Delta Dash Stakes in April, A Political Toast has earned $82,990 in his career.

Completing the field were Cwfasttrack, Jla Indy Rogue, Tf Ms Sweet Mallard, Soft On the Freight, Apolliticalfastlane and Escandalo. Dynastys Five Bar was scrathched.
