Heza Bell Perry Gets Third Consecutive Win Friday's Delta 550 Stakes

VINTON, LA—MAY 12, 2017—With an impressive rally under jockey Alfonso Lujuan, multiple stakes winner Heza Bell Perry defeated Coronas Statement by half-a-length in the $40,000 Delta 550 Stakes. Ww Showtime finished another half-a-length back to take third in the Delta Downs Friday undercard stakes.

A 6-year-old son of leading sire Heza Fast Dash, Heza Bell Perry raced over the fast track in :26.947 seconds, a 101-speed index with no wind for the 550 yards.

It was third consecutive win for the Javier Noel Contreras owned-and-trained gelding out of Do Bell Perry by Toast To Dash. Heza Bell Perry has compiled a (27) 11-2-2 record and used the $24,000 Delta 550 winners' purse to boost his career mark to over $171,000.

He entered the race off a win in the Harris County Stakes at Sam Houston Race Park on March 31st.

Paul Rigon saddled runner-up Coronas Statement for owner Julien Stevens III. Bred by Stevens and Jeff Fulton, the 4-year-old son of Mighty Corona is out of the Mr Jess Perry mare Tonyas Statement. Ridden by jockey David Alvarez, Coronas Statement earned $8,000 for the effort.

Ww Showtime, a 5-year-old son of First Prize Perry, races for owner Victoria Galindo and trainer Eduardo Morales. Raul Ramirez, Jr. rode Darrell Williams bred out of the Strawfly Special mare Ww Family Tradition. Already a stakes winner, Ww Showtime picked up $4,400 to bring his earnings mark to nearly $60,000.

Bar Struck, Super Sonic Patriot, Gone Cartel, Chuys Valcom and Apollitical Courage completed the field. Jls Book Of Psalms was scratched.
