Scoopies Leaving You Sets New Track Record In Harrah's Dash Victory


Scoopies Leaving You (inside), under jockey Donald Watson, sets a new track record in the Harrah's Dash Saturday at Louisiana Downs.

BOOSIER, CITY, LA—JANUARY 9, 2016—Multiple stakes winner Scoopies Leaving Your lugged in under jockey Donald Watson while holding off a late charge from Sleepers Best Corona to win the $15,000 Harrah's Dash Stakes in track record time on opening day, Saturday, of the Louisiana Downs 2016 Quarter Horse season. Sydney Leigh finished 1˝-lengths back in third place.

Saddled by Kevin Broussard, Scoopies Leaving You completed the 250 yards over a fast race track in :12.977 seconds, with a 14 mph tailwind, to win by a nose and earn a 109 speed index. This Cartel Is Cold held the previous Louisiana Downs track record of :13.048 seconds for 250 yards set February 10, 2013.

Owned by Joe Galindo, the 5-year-old son of multiple stakes sire Coronas Leaving You has compiled a (23) 12-3-2 record and used the $9,000 winner's purse to boost his career total to $204,780. Gerald Libersat bred the horse in Louisiana from the Toast To Dash mare Ms Scoopies Toast.

Javier Noel Contreras saddled Sleepers Best Corona to his second place effort for owner Frank Benson. The graded stakes winning son of Coronas Prospect picked up $3,000 to bring his career total to $130,885. Southern Rose Ranch bred Sleepers Best Corona in Oklahoma from the Strawfly Special mare Call Me The Sleeper. Alfonso Lujan had the riding assignment.

Sydney Leigh, a 6-year-old daughter of multiple stakes sire First Prize Perry, entered the race off an option claiming win during the closing week at Evangeline Downs December 18. Owned-and-trained by Martin Trejo, Sydney Leigh pressed early but weakened under jockey David Alvarez. David Bates and Darrel Cripps bred the gray in Louisiana from the Chicks Beduino mare Include. She earned $1,650 for her third place effort.

Completing the field were Heza Fast Afair, Jw Divino Comento, Julians Money Maker, Swingin Princess, Sweet Okey Dokey, Cartel Arrangement and Pyc First Prize Mia.
