Blood Money Sets Fastest Overall Time For Lee Berwick Futurity At Delta Downs

Blood Money, under jockey Everardo Rodriguez, setting the fastest time for the year’s $826,620 Lee Berwick Futurity (RG1) at Delta Downs Saturday.

VINTON, LA—JULY 10, 2021—Delta Downs hosted a special Saturday program to accommodate the final eight qualifying trials for this year’s $826,620 Lee Berwick Futurity (RG1).

The five horses with the fastest times on the program joined the five quickest runners from Friday’s eight trials (See related story to make up the field for this year’s richest race, which will take place on closing night, Saturday, July 31.

The top qualifying time from Saturday came in the sixth trial as Rojas Racing Stables, LLC’s Blood Money stopped the clock in 17.243 seconds under jockey Everardo Rodriguez. The Rosendo Valdez, Jr. trainee earned a speed index of 101 for the effort while racing over a track listed as fast. The clocking was also the fastest overall of the two Lee Berwick trial days.

Making his first start since winning the $347,000 Laddie Futurity (RG2) at Delta Downs on June 12, Blood Money notched the third win of his undefeated career. His other tally came in the Laddie Trials and now owns a career bankroll of $187,821 after taking home $7,200 on Saturday afternoon.

Bred in Louisiana by Spring Hill Farm LLC, Blood Money is a 2-year-old bay colt by Apollitical Blood, out of the Shazoom mare Zoom To The Money. He was purchased for $17,000 at the 2020 Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders Association Yearling Sale.

Delta Downs’ final three weeks of live American Quarter Horse Racing will begin on Monday. The track will conduct programs on a Monday through Thursday schedule for the next two weeks. The final week of racing will see live cards on Monday through Wednesday, July 26 – 28 before closing night, Saturday, July 31. First post time each day is at 3 pm CD.
