In the second division, trainer Ray Mayo also won his first stakes as a conditioner when Peytons Last Dash dominated his eight rivals. Claimed last July at Delta Downs for $10,000 by owner Rosendo Valdez, he made his first start off the layoff in fine form under veteran jockey John Hamilton.
“I wanted to give him a break and bring him back freshened,” said Mayo. “As a former jockey, I felt that John would fit him well. He gave him a perfect ride; never touched his stick. It was a great win for us!”
Carrizales trained runner-up Ss Classyjess, owned by Edgar Rosales who was ridden by Juan Garcia. Ronnie Stewart and Double S Farm bred the gray filly in Texas from the Royal Shake Em mare High Class Broad. The 4-year-old earned $3,000 to bring her career mark to $51,663.
Hot Prize, a 4-year-old daughter of multiple stakes sire Fast Prize Dash, was a neck back in third and earned $1,650 for owner-trainer Robi Meche. Bryan Candanosa rode the brown filly out of Hot Dare by Corona Caliente. Bred by Jack White, she has earned $65,883.
