Fantasticazoom Jr Wins First Of Two Divisions to Harrah’s Dash on LAD Opening Day

BOSSIER CITY, LA—JANUARY 4, 2020—Harrah’s Louisiana Downs kicked off its 2020 American Quarter Horse season on Saturday afternoon with sunny skies and two excellent fields competing in the $15,000 Harrah’s Dash.

In the first of the two features, J &J Racing LLC’s Fantasticazoom Jr lived up to his morning line favoritism, drawing off from the far outside post under rider Ricardo Hernandez, Jr. The 5-year-old son of Fantastic Corona Jr out of the Azoom mare Zoomshakalaka, covered 250 yards in :13.195 seconds over a fast track, aided by a 15-mph tail wind.

This was the fifth win from 10 starts for the gelding bred by Summer Run Inc and trained by Jose Carrizales, who picked up his first career stakes victory. The $9,000 winner’s purse boosted his bankroll to $30,170.

“He had a good, clean break, which I knew would be important,” he said. “Once he got away, he just outpowered them!”

Little Toy Guns, a son of multiple stakes sire First Prize Doc, ran second by a margin of a half-length under rider Bryan Candanosa for owner-Juan M. Montoya. Levi Mays conditions the 5-year-old gelding out of Strikeabye Baby by Strie The Cash. Bred by Belinda Disotell, he has won four races and earned $61,714.

Mighty Pocket Rocket was a half-length back in third for owner Tyler Lanford. Trained-and-bred by Mark Langford, the son of multiple stakes sire Mighty Corona was ridden by jockey Rolando Cabrera. The 8-year-old out of Raise The Sky by Pie In The Sky has earned $1,650 to bring his earnings to nearly $60,000.

Fastasticazoom Jr, sent off as the favorite, paid $4.40 to win and earned $9,000 for the victory. His career earnings now stand at $30,170.

Capitan de La Playa completed the superfecta. Moon Dash Cartel, Jrs Egos Runaway, Eyema Southern Gent, Temptation Is Sweet and Jess a Boy completed the order of finish.
