Parti Wagon Rolls In The Old South Derby At Delta Downs

VINTON, LA—MAY 10, 2019—Delta Downs hosted a pair of stakes races (see related story) on Friday night headed by the $74,115 Old South Derby, which was won by the Willie Simien, Jr. owned and trained Parti Wagon, who was ridden to victory by Rolando Pina.

Parti Wagon used a clean break to gain the lead early in the 350-yard test sophomore runners before storming home a half-length in front of Mia Jet In, who finished second. Thinkin Man rallied from well behind to finish third, another ¾ of a length behind the top pair.

Parti Wagon covered the distance over a fast track in 17.298 seconds, which equaled a speed index of 98. The win by Parti Wagon marked the sixth of his 13-race career. He earned $37,058 for the effort and now boasts a career bankroll of $102,516.

Bred in Indiana by Joe Davis, Parti Wagon is a 3-year-old gelding by leading sire Pyc Paint Your Wagon, out of the Okey Dokey Dale mare Sheisassheis.

Runner-up Mia Jet In earned $12,600 for finishing second. Kenneth Weeks trains the daughter of multiple stakes sire Jet Black Patriot for owner/breeder Lester Colomb, Jr. Out of the Pyc Paint Your Wagon mare Pyc First Prize Mia, Mia Jet In was also second in the Old South Futurity at Delta Downs a year ago.

Thinkin Man races for owner Brian Gunder and trainer Bobby Martinez. The Oklahoma-bred son of Carters Cartel from the First Down Dash mare Long Stemmed Roses earned $7,412 for the effort. Bred by Thomas Bradbury and Vaughn Cook, Think Man has banked $41,922. John Hamilton had the riding call.

Sent to the gate as the 2-1 favorite of the betting public, Parti Wagon returned $6.20 to win, $3.40 to place and $3.60 to show. Mia Jet In paid $5 to place and $4.20 to show. Thinkin Man was worth $6.80 to show.

Dominyun Cartel, Melas Miracle, Anasttasia, Jess C Me Zoom, Tf Rowdy Cartel, Eye Like Corona and Rkm Perry Full Moon completed the field.
