VINTON, LA—MAY 19, 2018—Delta Downs hosted a pair of American Quarter Horse stakes races on Saturday night to close out the fifth week of its 2018 season.

The richest race on the program was the $359,715 Laddie Futurity (RG2) for 2-year-old Louisiana-bred colts and geldings, which was won by Shakeshakeshakeit, who also broke his maiden in the event. The $50,000 Vinton Stakes was won by Featuring Fast Jess (see related story).

The win by Shakeshakeshakeit came after he qualified mid-pack during trials on April 28 following an illness. But on Saturday night the Michael Taylor trainee felt much better and it showed as he ran down Fastcopata nearing the finish line to record the win by just a nose. Fastest qualifier Acoronas Toast wound up a neck behind the top pair in third.

"The horse was feeling a lot better tonight than in the trials," said winning jockey Antonio Alberto. "He was a little under the weather that night, but still muscled through it and got the sixth fastest time. Over the last three weeks he kept getting better and I had a really good feeling and had confidence in him."

Shakeshakeshakeit, who is owned by Show Me Da Money LLC, covered 330 yards over a fast track in the Laddie in a time of :16.684 seconds, which equaled a speed index of 97.

"Tony had ultimate confidence in the horse and we did too. He has a lot of speed and we knew if he got away, he'd be tough," Taylor said. "Everybody at the farm worked so hard to bring him from where he was three weeks ago to what he accomplished tonight."

This year’s Laddie Futurity featured a record-breaking purse and the winner’s share was $179,858. Combined with the $1,320 he earned while running third in his trial, Shakeshakeshakeit has now earned a total of $181,178.

Bred in Louisiana by Copper Spring Ranch, LLC, Shakeshakeshakeit is a 2-year-old gelding by leading first-crop sire Five Bar Cartel, out of the Tres Seis mare Rebas In The House. The sorrel runner was purchased at the Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders Association Yearling Sale in 2017 for $21,000.

Dr. Tommy Hays, a spokesperson for Show Me The Money LLC partnership said "This was a thrill for us. It's a special partnership, a group of ten and we have a lot of fun. We want to thank Mike Taylor and his racing team. This horse has a lot of class and will get better as he goes down the road."

Taylor said the 2-year-old will likely be pointed to the Lee Berwick Futurity at Delta in July.

Sent to the gate at odds of 8-1 on the toteboard, Shakeshakeshakeit paid $19.60 to win, $9.20 to place and $6 to show. Fastcopata returned $21.40 to place and $8.80 to show. Acoronas Toast was worth $4 to show.

Runner-up Fastcopata picked up $61,152 for his gallant second-place effort. Jockey John Hamilton had the riding call aboard the son of leading sire Heza Fast Dash for trainer Eduardo Morales. Owner Ramiro Flores paid $38,000 at the LQHBA Yearling Sale for the bay colt out from the Walk Thru Fire mare Cocopata. Grant Farms, LLC is the breeder.

Fastest qualifier Acoronas Toast broke in, under jockey Eddie Sanchez, at the start but dueled throughout to get third. Roberto Madrigal trains the $11,000 LQHBA Yearling Sale graduate for owner Laura Estrella. Gerald Paul Vidrine bred the Coronas Leaving You gelding from the Toast To Dash mare Toast Of Magic. He picked up $35,972 to boost his earnings to $47,372.

Bullyonfire, Zoomin Patriot, Mr Empresario, Mr Range Rover, Tdz Going Nuts, Adored Pilot and Runaway Roulette completed the Laddie Futurity field.

Delta Downs will begin its sixth week of racing on Wednesday night with another 10-race program that begins at 6:15 pm CT.
