No Politics Here Steps Up In LA Delta Downs Derby Trials

VINTON, LA—JUNE 16, 2017—Under jockey Noe Castaneda, No Politics Here, rallied in the last of three trials to defeat Tf Racee Runaway by one-length while setting the fastest qualifying time for the LA Delta Downs Derby(RG3) on Friday night.

The 10 fastest state-bred 3-year-olds from tonight's trial races will return to Delta Downs on Saturday, July 8th to vie for the winner's share of a $257,160 purse going 400 yards.

The first of three finalists for leading trainer Kenneth Roberts Sr., No Politics Here completed the 400 yards in :19.554 seconds, a 98-speed index into a 5-mph crosswind.

T M Ranch owns the sorrel son of leading sire Jess Louisiana Blue from the Apollo (TB) mare In His Dreams. J.E. Jumonville, Jr. bred the gelding who has compiled an (8) 3-1-1 record and banked $29,106.

Lightemupwithcharm rallied in the second trial to get up the wire by a nose over First Prize Bourban. Ridden by jockey Santiago Mendez, the son of Sizzlin Cartel broke his maiden while posting the second fastest time of :19.693 seconds, a 95-speed index.

Trainer Manuel Macias saddled the brown gelding for owner Saul Dorado. Bred by Jumonville Farms, the finalist in last year's LQHBA Breeders' Sale Futurity(RG1) at the Fair Grounds. Out of the Feature Mr Jess mare Grace Filled Charm, Lightemupwithcharm has earned $30,808.

First Prize Bourban, a finalist in last year's RG1 Lee Berwick Futurity and the RG2 LQHBA Laddie Futurity held on for the third fastest time of :19.694 seconds, also a 95-speed index.

Kenneth Roberts, Sr. conditions the Coronas Leaving You gelding for owner Charles Boudreaux, Jr. Bred by Weetona Stanley, from the Mr Jess Perry mare First Prize Pearl, First Prize Bourban has won three of seven starts and earned more than $85,000.

Coronas Leaving You also sired 5th qualifier San Lorenzo Corona, 6th qualifier Jrs Corona Shadow and 10th qualifier Zooboo.

Delta Downs will close out its ninth week of live racing on Saturday night. The special 15-race program will feature an early post time of 4:45 pm to accommodate trails for this year’s Lee Berwick Futurity (RG1), which will carry an all-time Quarter Horse track record purse of $705,495.
