VINTON, LA—APRIL 29, 2017—Delta Downs closed out its second week of live American Quarter Horse racing on Saturday night with a special 12-race program. Each race served as a qualifying heat to determine the 10 finalists for this year’s $266,140 Louisiana Laddie Futurity (RG2), which will take place on Saturday, May 20.

Rayne Knight’s The Cazador recorded the fastest 330-yard clocking during the trials as he won the eighth race on the card under jockey John Hamilton. The Cazador won his trial race by 1-1/4 lengths and in the process posted a speed index of 95, while clocking :16.704 seconds into a 10 mph crosswind. Delta Downs’ racetrack was listed as fast for each of the 12 trials and there was a strong crosswind throughout the night.

The Cazador is a 2-year-old colt by Sir Runaway Dash out of the Toast to Dash mare Told Ya. He was bred in Louisiana by Michael Zingelmann and C. Crewnwelge. The Cazador was a $4,500 buyback at the last year’s Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders Association Yearling Sale.

Jls Dash N Fire, a $80,000 LQHBA Yearling Sale graduate racing for T M Ranch, rallied under jockey David Alvarez to get the second fastest time of :16.788 seconds, a 93 speed index into a 15 mph crosswind.

Kenneth Roberts, Sr. conditions the Heza Fast Dash colt out of the Osceola Warrior mare Psalmist. Jls-Speed Horse Ranch Inc. bred the first-time starter.

Roberts also saddled 4th fastest qualifier Piloto Shiner, a gelding by Mr Piloto, for Douglas Traylor.

There was a shake conducted by the Delta Downs stewards after the Laddie trials were complete in order to determine the 10th and final qualifier as Mr Coco Pilota and Coronas Going by You each recorded a running time of 16.907. The shake was won by Mr Coco Pilota so he will compete in the final in three weeks.

Multiple stakes sire Sir Runaway Dash and All American Futurity(G1) winner Mr Piloto sired two finalists each.
