The Renaissance Man Sets The Fastest Time For The $634,435 Lee Berwick Futurity

VINTON, LA—JUNE 20, 2015—Laddie Futurity(RG2) runner-up The Renaissance Man defeated One Fast Jet by a one-length Saturday night to post the top qualifying time for the $634,435 RG1 Lee Berwick Memorial Futurity at Delta Downs.

The 10 fastest accredited Louisiana-bred two-year-olds, from the 103 head that competed in 11 trial races Saturday night, will return to Delta Downs on Saturday, July 11th to vie for the winner's purse totaling $317,217.

Ridden by jockey Patrick Watson, The Renaissance Man dueled throughout and proved to be the best as he completed the 350 yards in :17.517 seconds, a 90 speed index. It was the second win in three starts for the Coronas Leaving You colt owned by Chad Hart and Bobby Cox.

The Renaissance Man was the first of three finalists saddled by trainer Kenneth L. Roberts, Sr. and jockey Patrick Watson. The pair also teamed to qualify 5th qualifier Shining Presence and 10th qualifier Louisiana Fast Dash.

A $13,000 LQHBA Summer Sale graduate, The Renaissance Man was bred by Jerry West from the First Down Jewel mare Jewels Fortune. With a (3) 2-1-0 record, the brown gelding has earned $67,074 this season.

Fast Ladys Man broke his maiden in the seventh trial for owner/breeders Timothy and Theresa Stephens and trainer Trey Willis. The Jet Black Patriot gelding entered the trials off a fourth place effort in the Laddie Futurity(RG2) on May 16.

Leading rider John Hamilton rode the homebred from the Royal Quick Dash mare Miss Fortune Lady to second fastest qualifying time of :17.527, also a 90 speed index. Fast Ladys Man has earned $30,651 in three starts this year.

Jason Richards and Michael Leblanc's Lassie Futuirty(RG2) winner Jess Louisiana Zoom kept her record a perfect 3-for-3 following a one-length winning effort in the fifth trial. The daughter of leading sire Jess Louisiana Blue has earned nearly $156,000 this season.

Danny Lavergne rode Jess Louisiana Zoom for trainer Frank Cavazos. Lyle Guillory bred the brown filly from the Azoom mare Zoomin For Cash. The filly's second dam is the All American Futurity winner and champion daughter of First Down Dash, Corona Cash.

Each of the Delta Downs Derby trials offered a purse of $15,000 Leading sires' Heza Fast Dash, Jet Black Patriot and Game Patriot each sired two finalists apiece.
