Under a solid rally by jockey Gerardo Garrido, Oldsmobile Hill was just up the wire while clocking the 350 yards in :17.439 seconds to earn a 93 speed index. It was the third in four starts this season for the Separatist 4-year-old owned by M and G Farms, Inc. and trained by Jesus Garrido.
Winner of $282,250 Valley Junction Futurity as a two-year-old, Oldsmobile Hill made only one start at 3. The California-bred was laid off for more than year, then returned to Hialeah Park where he won two allowance races and was fourth in the Roble Rojo Stakes.
Oldsmobile Hill rewarded backers with at $30.40 to win, $9.20 to place and $5.20 to show.
Larry Kopycinski saddled The Eagle Express for owner Mary Lynne Thompson. A 4-year-old son of leading sire One Famous Eagle, from the Royal Quick Dash mare Rustys Quickid, the gray gelding earned $5,000 for the effort. Alfonso Lujan rode the Clyde WIlmott graded stakes-placed earner of $75,890. He is a Texas-bred.
Looking for her sixth straight win, Cartels Fortune was denied and had to settle for the $2,750 show payday. Coming off back-to-back stakes wins that included the Sam Houston Distaff Challenge on May 2, the Carters Cartel 4-year-old is trained by Kenneth Roberts, Sr. and was ridden by Patrick Watson. Rodney Verret owns the brown filly out of Jewels Fortune, by First Down Jewel. Jerry West bred the earner of $122,500.
Heza Fast Rogue, Sleepers Best Corona, The Lizzard King and Bradys March Madness completed the field.
