Rich Louisiana Million Futurity Headlines Closing-Night Program at Evangeline Downs


Graded stakes winner San Lorenzo is among an elite group of state-bred 2-year-olds who face each other in the $1 million LQHBA Louisiana Million Futurity(RG1) on Saturday at Evangeline Downs.

OPELOUSAS, LA—DECEMBER 15, 2020—Evangeline Downs will end its 2019 fall Quarter Horse meet with a 10-race program on Saturday, topped by the 400-yard, $1-million Louisiana Million Futurity (RG1) for state-bred 2-year-olds.

Post time for the first race is set for 5:35 p.m. (CST).

Nine juveniles are entered back in the Louisiana Million, headed by graded stakes winners San Lorenzo, A Double Corona, and El Camino CL. A bay son of Coronas Leaving You trained by Hector Alcala for owner Rogelio Marquez Jr., San Lorenzo has earned $548,340 from five races, and his three wins include a half-length victory in the 350-yard, $1,025,782 Lee Berwick Futurity (RG1) at Delta Downs on August 22.

San Lorenzo drew post 3 and will be ridden by David Alvarez.

A Double Corona races for Tommy Hays and Bobby J. Barnett from the barn of trainer Jose Luis Sanchez III. A homebred son of Open Me A Corona, the sorrel gelding has won three of five starts, including the 350-yard, $476,000 Louisiana QHBA Sale Futurity (RG1) at Evangeline Downs on October 22, and he has banked $229,933.

A Double Corona drew post 6 and will be ridden by Eddie Sanchez.

Trainer Jose Luis Sanchez III will also send out El Camino CL, a homebred Heza Fast Dash colt campaigned by Delfino Lozano IV. El Camino CL began his career with a three-race win streak that included a neck victory in the 300-yard, $315,000 Mardi Gras Futurity (RG2) at Louisiana Downs on March 14.

El Camino CL has earned $219,139 from seven outs. The colt drew post 5 and will be ridden by Raul Ramirez Jr.

The Louisiana Million Futurity will be the second-richest Quarter Horse race run in the state this year, topped only by the Lee Berwick Futurity. The complete lineup, in post position order including jockey assignments:
