Fair Grounds Presents Stakes Tripleheader on Saturday

NEW ORLEANS, LA—AUGUST 17, 2017—Ana L. Alvidrez’s Magic Black Jack will put his four-race win streak on the line in the 250-yard, $25,000 Gentilly Dash Stakes, one of three stakes to be run at Fair Grounds Racecourse on Saturday.

A 4-year-old Jet Black Patriot gelding trained by Martin Trejo, Magic Black Jack will be stretching out in distance and facing open company off of his one-length victory as the 13-10 favorite in the 220-yard, $50,000 Flying Breed Stakes (R) at Delta Downs on July 8. Magic Black Jack is the 9-5 morning-line favorite and will be ridden by Everardo Rodriguez from post 2.

The complete lineup, in post position order including jockey assignments and morning-line odds--

  2. Magic Black Jack (Everardo Rodriguez), 9-5
  3. Pyc First Prize Mia (Santiago Mendez), 8-1
  4. Royal Aztec (Floriberto Maldonado), 5-2
  5. Ardor (Manuel Gutierrez), 6-1
  6. Wild Tycoon (David Alvarez), 9-2
  7. Fancy Mamacita (Damian Martinez), 8-1.

Also on Saturday, a field of seven state-bred distaffers, headed by David Dunn’s Jet Black Rogue, has been entered in the 350-yard, $50,000 Audubon Stakes (R). A 4-year-old daughter of Jet Black Patriot trained by Bruce B. Bell, the mare is coming off of a neck victory as the 4-5 choice in the 330-yard, $50,000 Flashy Hemp Stakes (R) at Delta Downs on July 8. Jet Black Rogue drew post 4 and will be ridden by John Hamilton.

First Prize Bourban, a brown gelding by Coronas Leaving You trained by Kenneth Roberts Sr. for owner Charles J. Boudreaux Jr., is the 3-1 morning-line favorite for Saturday’s 350-yard, $40,000 Treme Stakes (RG3) for Louisiana-bred 3-year-olds. First Prize Bourban will be shortening in distance off of his second-place finish in the 400-yard, $257,000 Delta Downs Derby (RG2) on July 8. Donald Watson will ride the gelding from post 7.
