Strong Field of 10 Louisiana-Breds Entered in Opelousas Stakes

OPELOUSAS, LA—NOVEMBER 8, 2016—A full field of 10 Louisiana-bred sprinters has been entered in Saturday’s 400-yard, $40,000 Opelousas Stakes (R) at Evangeline Downs.

Oak Hill Streak, a 4-year-old daughter of Heza Fast Dash trained by John Stinebaugh for owner Vanessa Bartoo of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, will put her four-race win streak on the line from post 2. The mare has earned $99,200 from six outs this season, and her streak includes victories in three state-bred stakes.

Gilbert Ortiz will ride Oak Hill Streak in the Opelousas. The mare’s nine opponents include Open Me A Corona and Heza Louisiana Dash. Trained by Bobby Martinez for owners Charles Forbes Jr. and Tommy Hays, Open Me A Corona is a 6-year-old stallion by Coronas Leaving You who has won three of his last four starts, all against Louisiana-bred stakes company.

Open Me A Corona drew post 5 and will be ridden by David Alvarez.

Heza Louisiana Dash is a 4-year-old Heza Fast Dash gelding racing for Robert S. Holland’s TS Ranch from the barn of leading trainer Kenneth Roberts Sr. Heza Louisiana Dash is coming off of a three-quarter length victory as the 1-2 favorite in the 350-yard, $30,000 Amelia Belle Stakes (R) at Evangeline Downs on October 1.

John Hamilton will ride Heza Louisiana Dash from post 6.
