Fair Grounds Meet Opens Saturday With LQHBA Sale Futurity Trials


Multiple graded stakes winner the Renaissance Man will head Saturday's Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders’ Association Sale Futurity (RG1) trials at Fair Grounds in New Orleans.

NEW ORLEANS, LA—AUGUST 10, 2015—A total of 93 Louisiana-bred 2-year-olds has been entered in Saturday's 350-yard Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders’ Association Sale Futurity (RG1) trials, as Fair Grounds opens its 10-day summer Quarter Horse meet with a 10-race program.

Post time for the first race is set for 4 p.m. (CDT).

The Renaissance Man, a multiple graded stakes winning son of Coronas Leaving You racing for Chad Hart and Bobby D. Cox, drew post 7 in the seventh of 10 trials. Trained by Kenneth Roberts Sr., the gelding has earned $130,527 from four outs, and his record includes a second-place finish, a head behind winner First Prize Denim, in the May 16, $283,000 Louisiana Breeders’ Laddie Futurity (RG2), and a third-place run, one length behind winner Jess Louisiana Zoom, in the July 11, $635,000 Lee Berwick Memorial Futurity (RG1), both at Louisiana Downs.

Patrick Watson will ride The Renaissance Man on Friday.

Other prominent state-bred 2-year-olds entered in Friday’s trials include Lyle Guillory’s Blues Favorite Fish and Jose Guzman’s First Kool Lajolla. A gray daughter of champion Jess Louisiana Blue trained by Joseph Manucy, Blues Favorite Fish is coming off of a neck victory in the 350-yard, $50,000 Louisiana Juvenile Stakes (R) at Delta Downs on July 11.

Blues Favorite Fish will be ridden by Orlando Baldillez from post 5 in the ninth heat. First Kool Lajolla is trained by Jose A. Garcia. The bay daughter of First N Kool has banked $71,921 from five races, and her resume includes a second-place finish in the May 15, $274,000 Louisiana Breeders’ Lassie Futuriy (RG2) at Delta.

Eddi Martinez has been named to ride First Kool Lajolla from the rail post in the 10th trial.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the $150,000-added final on closing day, September 5.
