VINTON, LA—JUNE 9, 2015—JCraig Lauger’s Zoomin Baby will return to Louisiana as one of 27 sophomores entered in Friday’s 400-yard Firecracker Derby trials at Delta Downs.

A gray gelding by Jess Zoomin trained by Michael Taylor, Zoomin Baby ended his 2-year-old campaign with a four-race win streak that included a half-length victory as the 2-1 favorite in the 400-yard, $215,000 Evangeline Downs Futurity. The gelding returns to Louisiana off of a fourth-place finish in a 350-yard Heritage Place Derby (G2) trial at Remington Park in Oklahoma on May 8.

John Hamilton has been named to ride Zoomin Baby from post 4 in the first of three Firecracker Derby trials.

Other prominent contenders include Triple M Farms’ Jess A Rogue, a homebred Heza Fast Dash gelding trained by Trey Ellis and a two-time stakes winner during the Hialeah Park winter meet, and Jaime Ramiro Flores’ Glimpse Of Dash, a brown Glimpse Of Greatness gelding trained by Homar Garza who comes back to Louisiana off of a third-place finish in the April 25, $203,000 Sam Houston Derby (G3) in Texas.

The 10 fastest qualifiers from Friday’s trials will meet in the $100,000-added Firecracker Derby final on July 3.
