Old South Futurity Headlines Saturday Stakes Doubleheader at Delta


Fastest qualifier Chicks Ivory will face a full field in Saturday’s 330-yard, $104,705 Old South Futurity at Delta Downs.

VINTON, LA—MAY 8, 2019—Ten 2-year-olds, topped by fastest qualifier Chicks Ivory House, have been entered back in Saturday’s 330-yard, $104,705 Old South Futurity at Delta Downs.

An Oklahoma-bred daughter of Ivory James trained by Wendy Garcia for owners Bill Manning and Steven Jordan, Chicks Ivory House broke her maiden with a three-quarter length victory in the sixth of eight Old South Futurity trials on April 20. The gray filly has earned $4,062 from two races.

Chicks Ivory House drew post 4 and will be ridden by Modesto Pina. Other contenders include Bobby D. Cox’s Apolitical Xpression, a homebred daughter of Freighttrain B trained by Kenneth Roberts. The gray filly has banked $11,684 from three races, and she was a finalist in the 300-yard, $254,070 Harrah’s Futurity (G3) at Louisiana Downs in March.

Apolitical Xpression drew post 9 and will be ridden by Donald Watson.

Also on Saturday, seven fillies and mares have been entered in the 350-yard, $25,000 Mother’s Day Stakes. Paragon Farms LLC’s Corona Carmelita, a daughter of Corona Cartel trained by Jimmy Padgett, will be making her 5-year-old season debut from the rail post. The mare has banked $44,418 from nine starts, and she was a finalist in the 2017 Ruidoso (G1) and Texas Classic Derby (G1). Cesar Esqueda will ride Corona Carmelita.
