Three QH Stakes Part of Fair Grounds’ Louisiana Champions Day

NEW ORLEANS, LA—DECEMBER 5, 2017—Saturday’s 13-race Louisiana Champions Day program at Fair Grounds Racecourse in New Orleans features three Quarter Horse stakes, headed by the 440-yard, $100,000 Louisiana Champions Day Classic (RG2) for older state-bred sprinters.

Heza Bell Perry, a 6-year-old son of Heza Fast Dash owned and trained by Javier Contreras, will be facing Louisiana-breds again off of his fourth-place finish, one length behind winner Cobalt Creek, in the 440-yard, $75,000 Refrigerator Handicap (G1) at Lone Star Park. A three-time stakes winner this year, the gelding drew post 3 and will be ridden by Alfonso Lujan.

T M Ranch’s Heza Louisiana Dash, a 5-year-old Heza Fast Dash gelding trained by Kenneth Roberts Sr., drew post 5 and will be ridden by Gilbert Ortiz. Heza Louisiana Dash has won three state-bred stakes this season, including the 440-yard, $100,000 Louisiana Classic Stakes (RG1) at Delta Downs in July.

Louisiana Champions Day Juvenile (RG2)

Rogelio Marquez Jr.’s Dashnunder Afullmoon, a two-time graded stakes winner this season, is one of 12 2-year-olds entered in Saturday’s 350-yard, $100,000 Louisiana Champions Day Juvenile Stakes.

A brown daughter of Heza Fast Dash trained by Saul Ramirez Jr., Dashnunder Afullmoon has earned $527,859 from five outs this year, and her two wins include the 350-yard, $705,000 Lee Berwick Futurity (RG1) on July 9, and the 330-yard, $322,000 Louisiana Breeders’ Lassie Futurity (RG2) on May 19, both at Delta Downs. The filly drew post 10 and will be ridden by Eddie Sanchez.

Louisiana Champions Day Derby (RG2)

A dozen state-bred sophomores have been entered in Saturday’s 400-yard, $100,000 Louisiana Champions Day Derby.

Toast To Virginia, a daughter of Taylors Toastin Papa, has won both of her outs since being claimed for $5,000 in August by Rosendo Valdez Jr., who also trains the filly. Toast To Virginia drew post 11 and will be ridden by Antonio Alberto.
