OPELOUSAS, LA—NOVEMBER 17, 2017—Entries were taken at Evangeline Downs for the $309,600 Evangeline Downs Futurity for 2-year-olds on Thursday. There were 100 horses entered to run in 12 trial races to be held on Friday, November 24 with a post time of 5:35 pm Central Time. The 10 fastest qualifiers from the trials will return to run in the Final, which will be held on Saturday, December 16.

The ninth of the 12 trials offers a very intriguing matchup between two horses that have won Futurity Finals already in 2017. The 9-5 morning-line favorite is Three Bar Cartel, who won the $353,700 Grade 2 Dash For Cash Futurity at Lone Star Park in September. The 7-2 second choice is Sixes Flash, who triumphed in the Grade 2 $274,325 Firecracker Futurity at Delta Downs in July.

There are also other horses entered in the trials that have won Futurities in 2017. Dont Temp Me, the 2-1 favorite in the second trial, won the $81,430 Old South Futurity at Delta Downs in May. Sr Shambles, the 2-1 favorite in the sixth trial, took the $108,800 Heartland Futurity at Indiana Grand in July.

The $309,600 Evangeline Downs Futurity is one of four major finals that will be run on Saturday, December 16. The $1,000,000 LQHBA Louisiana Million, the $150,000-added LQHBA Breeders Derby and the $50,000-added Evangeline Downs Derby will also take place that Saturday night.
