LQHBA Sale Graduates Top Retama's Second Schooling Race Day


Schooling races continued today at Retama Park. The Texas racetrack carded 14 of its 16 races for two-year-olds.

SELMA, TX—FEBRUARY 17, 2017—A pair of 2016 LQHBA Yearling Sale graduates recorded the top two times from 84 2-year-olds on Friday at Retama Park.

The Texas racetrack was conducting its second day of schooling races this season with 14 of the 16 250-yard races restricted for 2-year-olds.

Peppermint Punch, a colt by second crop sire Tee Cos, defeated Illusively Going in Race 12 to record the day's top 2-year-old time of :13.52 seconds. G. Aguirre, III saddled the $5,200 LQHBA Sale graduate for owner Jesse Gibson.

Blanchet Farms LLC, agent for Darrell Williams consigned the colt to last summer's sale in Kinder, Louisiana. Peppermint Punch is the second foal of the Dashin Bye mare Commercial Affection, a half-sister to three stakes horses.

Trainer P. Clemons saddled Nick Sabin to a close win over Kas Tempting in the Race 10 to get the second fastest time of :13.61 seconds. Eliseo Rodriguez owns the $18,000 LQHBA Yearling graduate by multiple stakes sire Game Patriot.

Nick Sabin is the second foal of the RG3 finalist Flamboyant Chick by Toast To Dash. The second dam is a G2-placed and G2 stakes producing daughter of Chicks Beduino. Robicheaux Ranch Inc., Agent for Eddie Harrison was the consignor.

Kas Tempting finished a nose back to capture the third fastest time of :13.52 seconds. J. Sanchez conditions the $16,000 Heritage Place repurchase for owner/breeder Francisco Javier Garza. The colt by champion/champion sire Tempting Dash is a half-brother to TQHA Sire's Cup Derby(RG3) winner Jumpn Beau Chick.

The aforementioned Illusively Going, a TQHA Sale graduate by first crop sire FDD Going Grand, held on to the day's fourth fastest clocking of :13.70 after finishing second to Peppermint Punch. Owner Rolando Morales paid $4,000 for the gray filly last July.

Scarlett Hill Farm Inc., Agent consigned the third foal from the unraced Azoom mare Lusi. She is a daughter of stakes winner and former Broodmare of the Year Illusive Princess by Illusivo. This is the family of Texas Classic Futurity(G1) winner First Place Queen.

The sire Glimpse Of Greatness got two winners on Friday's schooling card. Additional sires with 2-year-old race winner's today were Mighty B Valiant, Woodbridge, First Moonflash, Dashair, Wave Carver, Jess Louisiana Blue, Mr Jess Perry, The Louisiana Cartel, Cosmograph and Dealagame.
