Jes An Angel Fastest In Old South Futurity Trials

VINTON, LA—APRIL 30, 2022—Grade 2 finalist Jes An Angel got her second career win on Saturday night when she posted the fastest qualifying time from seven trial races contested for the Old South Futurity at Delta Downs.

The ten fastest qualifiers will return to the Vinton, Louisiana racetrack on Saturday, May 21st to vie for the winner's share of a $148,040 purse going 330 yards.

Coming off a troubled last-place finish in the $324,288 Louisiana Downs Futurity(G2) in her last start April 3, Jes An Angel returned to her winning form tonight with a. three-quarter length effort under jockey Francisco Giles. Her time of :17.270 seconds, into a 15 mph headwind, established the top mark of the night.

Trainer Dustin Rhodes, who also saddled the daughter of multiple stakes Jess Zoomin to the third fastest qualifying time for the Louisiana Downs Futurity in her career debut, conditions the sorrel filly for owner Lance Moore. 

Moore purchased the Texas-bred filly from her breeder Jerry Windham for $10,000 in the Heritage Place September Yearling Sale. She is out of the First Down Dash mare Ms Kates Angel, a half-sister to AQHA Racing Champion filly Kates Dynasty and and multiple stakes sire Texas Icon. Jes An Angel has earned $11,285 in her three career starts.  

Thoro, runner-up to the fastest qualifier in trial 3 held on to the second fastest clocking of :17.380 seconds for owner Rodolfo Briones and trainer Reuben Chavez.

Jockey Arturo Alvarez had the riding call aboard the son of multiple stakes sire Coronado Cartel from the Valiant Hero mare Absoduckinglutely. Arturo Ibarra bred the brown colt in Texas.  Thoro made his career debut in the tonight's trials.
