Evangeline Downs Prepping For 2019 American Quarter Horse Season, Stall Apps Due August 20

OPELOUSAS, LA—AUGUST 6, 2019—Evangeline Downs will be conducting its 2019 American Quarter Horse season with 46 racing days scheduled to be run on a Wednesday through Saturday schedule from Friday, September 27 through Saturday, December 14. Post time for the season will be 5:35 pm Central Time.

Stall applications are due to the Evangeline Downs racing office by Tuesday, August 20. Horsemen can access the application on-line via the evdracing.com website and clicking in the “Horsemen’s Info” tab at the top of the page.

In addition to the stall applications, nomination forms for the $100,000-added Evangeline Downs Futurity and the $50,000-added Evangeline Downs Derby are available there as well. The nomination forms and first subscription payments are also due into the racing office by Tuesday, August 20.

The trials for the Evangeline Downs Futurity will be Friday, November 22 and the trials for the Evangeline Downs Derby will be Saturday, November 23. The finals for Futurity and Derby will be part of the closing night program on Saturday, December 14. That night’s program will also include the $20,000-guranteed Sam’s Town Stakes and the $20,000-guaranteed EVD 550 Handicap.

The trials for the LQHBA Louisiana Million will be held at Evangeline Downs on Friday, November 15 and the trials for the $150,000-added LQHBA Breeders Derby will take place on Saturday, November 16. The finals for both of those races will be on Saturday, December 7, as part of a program that will also include the $30,000-guaranteed Scoopies Leaving You Stakes and the $40,000-guaranteed LQHBA Invitational.

While looking forward to an exciting 2019 season at Evangeline Downs, the 2018 season leaders deserve some recognition. The leading rider for the meet was John Hamilton, whose 35 victories for the season edged the runner-up, Luis Vivanco, by two.

Josue Huitron scored a dominant victory in the trainers’ standings with 24 wins, which were eight more than second-place Kenneth Weeks.

Rogelio Marquez, Jr. was also a forceful winner in the owners’ standings, as his 12 wins were six more than Rancho Herradura, LLC. of Barbara J. Ball.

There will be no live racing at Evangeline Downs on Thanksgiving Thursday, November 28. That week’s schedule will be Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday to accommodate the holiday with post time each evening being the regular 5:35pm Central Time.
