Legendary Louisiana Trainer Ronald Briley Passes At Age 82


Long-time Louisiana based Quarter Horse trainer Ronald Briley passed away today.

GRAND PRAIRIE, LA—MARCH 21, 2020—Long-time Louisiana based Quarter Horse trainer Ronald Briley passed away of natural causes today at his home surrounded by his family at age 82.

Briley was a native of Grand Prairie, Louisiana who began his training career in Louisiana in the mid-1960's. Briley was a conditioner that saw the establishment of organized Quarter Horse racing in Louisiana with Evangeline Downs in the late 1960's, and will as the inception of Delta Downs in the early 1970's.

Briley was instrumental in having a hand in making Louisiana Quarter Horse racing what it is today, as he brought many owners and patrons into the sport during his training heydays.

Some of top runners in Louisiana Quarter Horse racing was conditioned by Briley throughout their careers. Briley was the trainer of LQHBA Hall of Famer Go Vicky Meyers, 1970 LQHBA Breeders Futurity winner Their He Goes, multiple stakes winning Double Knit, multiple stakes winning Miss Fancy Meyers, 1978 Firecracker Futurity(G3) winner Gotta Go Chocolate, 1978 Old South Futurity winner Magic Injun, 1987 LQHBA Sales Futurity winner Hog Heaven, etc.

A public viewing will be held at 9:00am (CDT) Tuesday morning. Rosary at 11am at La Ville Funeral Home in Ville Platte and burial at St Peter Catholic Church in Grand Prairie, Louisiana.
