Louisiana Downs Opens 46-Day Quarter Horse Meet Saturday

Q-RACING JOURNAL—JANUARY 3, 2016—Louisiana Downs will open its 46-day winter American Quarter Horse meet on Saturday.

Located in Bossier City, near Shreveport, Louisiana Downs will offer live racing on a Saturday-through-Tuesday schedule through March 23. Post time for the first race every day will be 1 p.m. (CST).

Louisiana Downs’ stakes schedule will feature 11 official stakes, topped by the 300-yard, $100,000-added Mardi Gras Futurity (RG2) for state-bred juveniles on March 12, and the 300-yard, $75,000-added Harrah’s Futurity (G3) on closing day. Other major stakes scheduled during the meet include the 400-yard, $50,000-added Mardi Gras Derby (R) on March 12.

Louisiana Downs’ opening-day program features a pair of stakes the 250-yard, $15,000 Harrah’s Dash and the 870-yard, $15,000 Marathon Stakes (see related story).
